MCC has named Durham's Dan Gale as the Universities' player of the month for June.
Gale who has just graduated from Durham had a fine month bowling his left-arm orthodox spin in June. In nine matches last month, Gale took 25 wickets at an outstanding average of 12.84. This included three five wicket hauls. He took five for 54 from 30 overs against Leeds/Bradford MCCU to clinch the MCCU Championship. This set-up Durham's appearance in the Challenge Final on 25th June in which Gale took five for 22 from his ten overs.

Dan Gale took 5 for 23 in the MCCU Challenge Final this year. Gale commented: 'I've had a good summer bowling, but in June I really found some rhythm and got lucky with some of the pitches we played on which suit me… I've had a great three years at Durham, hopefully my time at the MCCU will lead onto a career within cricket. I've done well against the counties this year, and it is great to play and train with like-minded lads, who want to play the professionally…Foxy [Durham MCCU head coach, Graeme Fowler] has been great to work with. He has really helped me believe that I can compete against professional cricketers.'
Gale who is currently trialling with Durham County has had a fantastic university career in the North-east which has seen him take over 100 wickets. He joins Oxford Captain Jak Martin (April) and Loughborough all-rounder Alex Welsh (May) as winners of the MCCU player of the month awards. The winners receive a silver salver and a pair of tickets to the England-Pakistan ODI on the 20th September.
